Coordinator Strategic Communications

About the Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled strategic communications leader to join our team for a 12-month parental leave cover. You’ll proactively manage Council’s reputation by establishing our own channels to reach council audiences, growing our audiences and building capability for generating relevant and compelling content. You will empower our diverse community to thrive and prosper by ensuring they have access to the information they need, listening to what is important to them, explaining council decisions and telling stories of where we are delivering value. This role manages a small team of communications specialists and contributes to the leadership of the wider Communications team.

This is a Band 7 classified role, remuneration will be $98,781 - $110,786 (depending on experience) plus 10% superannuation.

What you will need to thrive

  • Ability to lead a team of communication specialists in developing and maintaining content and channel strategies to effectively reach our audiences
  • Strategic ability to make connections between our community’s priorities, our Council Plan and our work, and tell stories that illustrate this in interesting ways
  • Be curious about the world around you and the people in it, with a demonstrated ability to assess context, identify potential issues and strategically plan and adjust communication accordingly
  • Ability to identify and mitigate risks and provide strategic advice on messaging and communications approach to stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
  • Exceptional writing skills and ability to distill complex information into easy to read explanations that anticipate the information needs of the audience
