About the role:
This role will support the expansion of the Victoria Police Drug and Alcohol Testing Program through the development and delivery of training and awareness in both the legislation and policies relative to drug and alcohol testing of Victoria Police employees. The role will also be responsible for managing the review and development of policies that support the internal drug and alcohol testing program including engagement with the workforce and key stakeholders. The Drug and Alcohol Testing Unit (DATU) is led by an Inspector. The unit is responsible for supporting Victoria Police's commitment to provide a safe workplace. DATU aims to ensure that all employees are healthy, fit, ready and capable to perform their duties and to deliver an ethical and professional service to the community.

DATU is responsible for:
  • Managing the overall drug and alcohol testing program on behalf of the Chief Commissioner of Police.
  • Arranging the collection and testing of samples by collectors and service providers.
  • Managing relevant contracts with and acting as the contact point for collectors and service providers as required.
  • Maintaining records of all tests conducted tests.
  • Receiving, recording and communicating test results.
  • Overseeing the process for assessing and managing test results.
  • Assisting the Senior Police Medical Officer with disputed positive test results.
  • Providing high-level advice on drug and alcohol testing legislation, policies and procedures.

Your duties will include:
  • Review, research and development of policies, education and awareness training relating to drug and alcohol testing.
  • Providing high-level customer service and advice to a range of internal and external stakeholders pertaining to the drug and alcohol testing program.
  • Preparing timely, factual and accurate reports including briefing notes, project proposals and submissions for a range of stakeholders to influence project outcomes.
  • Actively encourages working cooperatively with key individuals to build and maintain an effective team to deliver drug and alcohol testing services.
As the successful applicant, you will have:
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate and negotiate with a range of internal and external stakeholders to achieve and influence required outcomes and goals.
  • Self-motivated and ability to work autonomously and within a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to undertake complex research in support of projects, strategies and business case development.
  • Experience in the creation, delivery and evaluation of education and training programs.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Requirements and relevant information:
  • One (1) x full time fixed term until 30/06/2023 position available.
  • Position will be located at the Victoria Police Centre. 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head. To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
  • In accordance with the Acting Chief Health Officer's Direction – COVID-19 Mandatory Vaccination (Workers) Directions, you are required to be fully vaccinated and your employment with Victoria Police is subject to proof of vaccination.
