The Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment (HIE) is an institute within the Western Sydney University. The Institute conducts fundamental and applied research in a range of areas that include ecology, physiology, genetics, and climate change biology. In the space of just a few years, the Institute has rapidly become a leading centre of excellence in ecosystem function and environmental responses to changing climates with a strong reputation for delivering research outcomes of the highest quality. With a unique suite of world-class research facilities, the Institute collaborates with Australian and international institutions.

The HIE is seeking to appoint a Scientific Programmer to support an ARC-funded Laureate project on Modelling Australian Vegetation Dynamics, awarded to Distinguished Professor Belinda Medlyn. The project aims to develop a quantitative process-based model that predicts the responses of Australian vegetation to environmental and climatic factors.

The HIE has significant strengths in modelling of ecosystem function. The role of the Scientific Programmer is to deliver on the development, optimisation, testing and management of a new dynamic vegetation model with a focus on Australian ecosystems. In this position you will be primarily responsible for designing, developing and managing the code base for the model and the associated datasets. You will work closely with a team of postdoctoral fellows and PhD students, providing programming and IT support to the team. You will also support model distribution and provision of training to external users.

Remuneration Package: HEW Level 8 $120,879 to $134,189 p.a., (comprising Salary of $102,144 to $113,391 p.a., plus 17% Superannuation and Leave Loading).
