Aviation Meteorological Services provides the aviation industry with specialised meteorological services contributing to efficient and effective aviation operations within the Australian Flight Information Region and the Asia-Pacific Region.
We are seeking motivated meteorologists to join the Aviation Operations Delivery Team, based in either the Brisbane or Melbourne Aviation Forecasting Centre (AFC) including the Hazardous Weather Unit (HWU).
The Aviation Meteorologist position is graded at a PO1/PO2 broadband level and we are seeking Meteorologists with different levels of experience through this recruitment process. For successful applicants who are rated at PO1 level, the meteorologist is expected to build both their forecasting skills and customer knowledge through on-the-job experience, working on projects and via formal training programmes. Products and services while working in the role will vary over time, depending on the skills and experience. Successful applicants working in Melbourne can also gain further experience while providing services and creating products as part of the Hazardous Weather Unit (HWU).
A one year's experience in an operational meteorological service delivery environment is desirable. In keeping with current Quality Management requirements, a requirement to maintain an Aeronautical Meteorological Forecaster competency, and additionally for the HWU role, Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre Forecaster competency. Training and certification will be provided to successful applicants if required.
