Position Summary Rapid Response Testing Support Officer
Expression of Interest The Gippsland Region Public Health Unit (GRPHU) are seeking expressions of interest from both clinical and non-clinical staff to support with community-based Rapid Response Testing (RRT).
Clinical staff: Duties undertaken by clinicians include:
  • Safely conduct COVID-19 oropharyngeal and bilateral nasal swabbing for COVID-19 testing
  • Provide general clinical COVID-19 testing education and information (e.g. explain the swabbing process and isolation requirements)
  • Assist test recipients in completing registration requirements
  • Support and maintain the cleanliness of areas for staff and testing recipients and adhere to safe waste disposal protocols
  • Escalate discrepancies and concerns to Team Leaders or Medical Officers
  • Provide first aid and care where required
  • Collaborate with other GRPHU staff and staff from other health services
Current registration aligning with one (or more) of the below registered health professionals is required:
  • Ambulance Attendant (Diploma)*
  • Dentists
  • Dental/Oral health therapists
  • Dieticians*
  • Physiotherapists
  • Registered nurses
  • Enrolled nurses
  • Nursing and/or midwifery students/RUSON/Ms (year 2 or 3)
  • Occupational therapists*
  • Physiotherapy students (final year)
  • Speech pathologists
  • Speech pathology students (final year)
  • Medical practitioners
  • Medical students (year 3, 4, or 5)
  • Paramedics
  • Paramedic students (year 3)
  • Paramedicine graduates
  • Pathology Collector (Certificate trained)
  • Patient Transport Officer (Certificate trained) *
  • These professional groups can only undertake oropharyngeal and bilateral nasal swabs, not nasopharyngeal.

Non-clinical administration staff: Duties undertaken by support officers include:
  • Greet test recipients and assist them in completing registration requirements using test tracker
  • Provide general non-clinical COVID-19 testing education and information (e.g. explain the swabbing process and isolation requirements)
  • Support clinical staff in conducting the COVID-19 testing procedure
  • Support and maintain the cleanliness of areas for staff and testing recipients
  • Run errands and undertake other tasks as delegated by the Team Leader
  • Assist test recipients and other staff in their duties as required
  • Collaborate with other GRPHU staff and staff from other health services
The following skills and attributes are required for support officers:
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with a diverse range of people
  • Demonstrated integrity and ability to manage confidential and sensitive information
  • Ability to work independently and collegially as part of a team
Other information:
  • Manager approval should be sought prior to expressing interest
  • Weekend availability is required
  • The need for RRT is often sporadic; in response to local outbreak situations. An on-call rostering system is used to support efficient staff planning
