The Department for Trade and Investment (DTI) helps industry ecosystems and businesses identify and capitalise upon opportunities for job creation and economic growth. DTI works with South Australian businesses and stakeholders to boost exports, attract investments and grow the state's international engagement and showcase South Australia to the world.

DTI supports businesses to connect with overseas markets, create strong international relationships and capitalise on export opportunities, while at the same time, strengthening the South Australian economy through investment and creation of jobs.

The Role:

The Manager - Americas, UK-Europe, MENA-India will be responsible for connecting and liaising with South Australian businesses pursuing trade and investment connections across South Australia's identified priority industry sectors with the South Australian international representations in Americas, UK-Europe, MENA-India.

The role is a management position within the International Market Development team where you will have responsibility for the Americas desk based in Adelaide, and manage and direct the UK-Europe, MENA-India desks staff, based in Adelaide. You will be responsible for the coordination and provision of an efficient and effective project and planning function in DTI that supports the interactions between DTI, its business clients and the trade and investment offices located within the region.

You will contribute to and drive trade and investment initiatives, including trade and investment business to business (B2B) missions and programs, currently in virtual formats. These include virtual pitch programs through to bespoke B2B connections between South Australian businesses and your overseas office regions.

The role will work closely with South Australia's overseas offices in the region, currently located in the Americas (New York, Houston), UK-Europe (London) and MENA-India (Dubai and New Delhi) and will support the opening of new offices.

About You:

To be successful in this position, you must be able to demonstrate your suitability across the following key capabilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of international markets, with emphasis and experience in one of more markets of the Americas, UK-Europe and/or MENA-India
  • A sound understanding of emerging opportunities within one or more of South Australia's priority industry sectors.
  • Sound understanding of relevant State, Commonwealth and Local Government relationships and demonstrated ability to develop networks of key decision makers and contacts and leverage these to drive the State's trade and investment agenda.
  • Extensive experience in business development with a client centric approach to doing business in international markets, and proven successful experience in developing and implementing commercial business strategies, whilst demonstrating an ability to recognise and manage sensitive matters discretely, demonstrating a high level of integrity, diplomacy.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing resources and remote project teams to achieve Department key performance indicators (KPI's) through trade and investment outcomes.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining effective networks, alliances and operational relationships with internal and external clients and stakeholders.

Desirable Qualification:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualification in international engagement, business, economics, or related field is desirable.

Special Conditions

  • Successful applicants may be required to obtain a satisfactory Department of Human Services Criminal History Check or National Police Check prior to employment. A renewal will be required every 3 years.
  • Out of hours work will be required.
  • Intrastate, interstate and international travel may be required (where appropriate)
  • A minimum of five years' experience working in a management position in one of more international markets of the Americas, UK-Europe or MENA-India
  • This position is offered on an ongoing basis.
