Overview of The School of Law and Society

The School of Law and Society provides a practical, inspiring and rigorous learning environment that empowers graduates to be career and future ready and to be able to make a significant contribution to their communities. We are committed to quality teaching and learning that focuses on employability and flexibility, where students work independently, as well as with academic staff and peers, to navigate complex practical, ethical and social issues.

The School of Law and Society strives to:

  • prepare outstanding and ethical graduates who are equipped for rapidly changing and interdisciplinary careers;
  • advance meaningful scholarship and ideas for the benefit of the academic, professional and wider community; and
  • foster public service and justice.

The School of Law and Society offers a range of programs and study components including:

  • Law
  • Social Work (Undergraduate and Masters)
  • Criminology (including Honours)
  • Counselling (Undergraduate and Masters)
  • Human Services
  • Urban Design and Town Planning
  • Arts (with a range of study components including history, geography, sociology, sustainability and Indigenous studies)

The School is also focused on producing high quality and impactful research and welcomes Higher Degree Research (HDR) students in either Doctor of Philosophy or Master by Research programs. The School is home to the USC Road Accident Research Collaboration, Sexual Violence Research and Prevention Unit (SVRPU), the Sustainability Research Centre (SRC) and the Engage Research Cluster.
